Our Story

Spec-L ( pronunced Special ) is a family run business that found its unique niche in the clothing field 30 years ago!

Like most successful businesses it was founded on the concept of defining and filling a need.

My parents recognized that the residents of Nursing and Convalescent hospitals needed clothing just like everyone else but were unable to shop for themselves. They were dependent on the facilty staff, family caregivers or Guardians to provide that service for them. We do it better!

It was soon apparent that our customers had special needs associated with their age and ailments. Problems such as limited mobility, incontinence, arthritis and edema were common problems that sometimes required creativity and a practical approach. Fortunately as the years progressed more and more manufacturers have recognized the need for quality garments that address these special needs and the quality and selections have improved dramatically. Our line of this specialty clothing is constantly changing and expanding to include new innovations as they become available.

But, not all our customers are elderly or need adaptive apparel so we also carry a great selection of everyday apparel that is appealing to our younger customers as well. In fact our line of contemporary and youthful fashions sets us apart from our competition.

In California we have several areas that are serviced by our Sales Consultants. These special ladies will gladly call on the facilities, and work with the residents and staff to take care of their residents clothing needs. They can offer assistance in measuring, selection and ordering for our customers. There is no additional charge for their help!

As we continued to grow our customer base expanded to include people in their own homes who needed our products to make their life easier. Currently, our catalogs are mailed out twice a year to 15 major markets, and we have filled Internet sales from every state in the Country.

When mom and dad started the company back in 1979 they carried a small inventory and ran the company out of a 1,500 square foot warehouse they rented under a freeway. As the company grew we found that we had to keep moving to acommodate our growing inventory. We now own a brand new 8,000 square foot facility in a prime industrial area.
